          2.

What is your average student/client like?

Most of us are not elite athletes or special ops guys. Although we do train those types, the majority of clients are average folks who want to be healthy and have fun doing it. We have a 65 year old plumber, a 50 year old lawyer, and an 18 year old student. We also have a pro MMA fighter, an ex-navy wrestler, and an ex-Marine Corp. boxer.  Basically, we have people of all types; people just like you.

          3.

What is different about your fitness program from some of the other gyms or even a home video program?

Because of our extensive experience and education, we can address the body as a whole, integrated unit.  A properly designed fitness program will progress you through all of the components; the muscular phases, metabolic conditioning, and nutrition.  All of this is based on you, as an individual, with needs that are specific to your situation.

          4.

What are corrective exercise and medical fitness?

Corrective exercise is a form of rehabilitation training that can be effective prior to and following an injury. We look at the body as a whole and using rehab and physical therapy protocols level out any muscular imbalances caused by traumatic injury, repetitive movements, or a sedentary life style.

Medical fitness addresses any chronic condition you may have. We will work with your healthcare provider to develop and implement an exercise plan that will help stop, reduce, or slow down the progression of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiac disease, obesity, or pulmonary issues.

          5.

What styles of Martial Arts does Fairfax Fitness offer?

We teach survival martial arts and self-defense. In other words we will teach YOU how to survive an altercation. We employ techniques from: Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Combat/Contemporary Jeet Kune Do, Combat Submission Wrestling/Shoot Fighting/Grappling, and Kali (stick and knife).  The idea behind our instruction is to integrate the different areas of combat; stand up, ground, and weapons. First you will learn the self-preservation aspects or survival skills; you then have the rest of your life to get better at making each technique crisper and cleaner.  Self-preservation first then self-perfection.

          6.

What’s the difference between the self-defense offered at Fairfax Fitness and the other training facilities that offer similar instruction?

There really are not any other local schools that teach what we do and how we do it.  We teach real self-defense for real life situations - not sport fighting. Although what you learn can be adjusted for sport, our focus is on survival, not scoring points. Super bowl winning coach Tony Dungy didn't have an extensive playbook or use fancy techniques. He taught his players’ simple cues - how to read their opponents. We use that same philosophy. You will be taught what information is useful and what can be ignored. With a little practice using these cues to defend yourself and your family will become second nature. This simple process fosters the excellence for which we strive

          7.

Does Fairfax Fitness offer group and private training?

We offer private fitness training and self-defense training that are scheduled on a per-client basis. Additionally, we have defensive tactics seminar every Saturday from noon-3.

          8.

          Do you teach children?

We teach children in private lessons. The group classes are geared towards adults.

          9.

I am not in very good shape, can I still take lessons?

Well…that is kind of why we’re here.  Because of our extensive fitness knowledge, you will always have a safe and productive workout.

          10.

What’s the best part of training at Fairfax Fitness?

Variety, our education, and our experience.  Because of all the different types of people here, you have the opportunity to train with individuals of varying backgrounds and attributes.
