On August 11, 2009, Tim Farrell, one of my students and closest friends, passed away from a pulmonary thromboembolism, in other words, a blood clot in the lung. He was only 35 years old.
He left behind a wife and a beautiful daughter whom he never met as she was born just a few months after his death.
Tim trained with us for a number of years. He came to our school with a willingness to learn and an attitude that never allowed him to quit. As an assistant instructor he was a mentor and a leader.
Because of his service to our country, Tim was inurned at Arlington National Cemetery on January 11, 2010. The ceremony was attended by freinds from all over the world.
Tim was the most honorable man I have known, and he had become one of my best freinds. Knowing that we will not share another laugh, cigar, beer, or sparring match hurts me to the core.
In his memory and because of his outstanding athletic and academic achievements, his high school has set up a scholarship fund. No amount is too large or too small.
